Mary would not allow her son, George, to join the British Navy and that one decision was a history-changer! As he was headed off to Washington to assume the presidency of the United States, he stopped by his mom's house to visit her on her death bed (breast cancer). He asked he blessing to become the first president of the United States. I stood in the room where he did this, where she died. It was an emotional connection to me that our Founding Fathers were amazing yet ordinary people. Grown man asking his mom for her blessing. How tender is that? She died soon after. He didn't get the news until five days after her passing at which time she had already been buried.
