CL Day 27

Friday 27 July 2015

Well, on this, my 27th day of summer vacation, I went to school!

And as usual, the place was crawling with teachers. People have NO IDEA what teachers give throughout the summer!

We did several errands today and used internet! :)

CL Day 26

Thursday 9 July 2015

In the words of Harlan Kredit whose season numbers 43 this year..."Biggest bear jam you ever saw!"

K took an hour and a half of annual leave so we could run to Utah for a minute, but FIRST we ran into a bison jam at Mud Volcano. THEN, there was a disabled vehicle so YPSS had to come with a tow truck and an escort by law enforcement. And THEN there was a bear jam with a sow and two cubs on a bison carcass. We were stuck for a LONG time!

CL Day 25

Wednesday 8 July 2015

All the rangers have to do a Family Program at 5:00 p.m. K's is "Moose VS. Elk." He does a great job with it!

CL Day 24

Tuesday 7 July 2015

Chip sealing.

This made for a tougher day. But we got through it.

CL Day 23

Monday 6 July 2015

It was the annual "Steak Fry." Harlan Kredit has been hosting it for about 30 years. We paid a few bucks and he promised: steak, blueberry muffin, and lemonade. Also, everyone was asked to bring a dish to pass. Love chit-chatting with all the rangers. Good times! Deer came to the party. We gotsta have a little social activity every now and then. We saw bears on a bison carcass after dinner.

Park Patriotism

Saturday 4 July 2015

We hiked Elephant Back (saw squirrels mating, that was a first), went to the parade and had BBQ ribs in the crockpot for dinner.

CL Day 22 (IMPERIAL!)

Friday 3 July 2015

So TR said something about a hike to Fairy Falls. You can get there via the 5 mile trail or the 7 mile trail. I told him I was "all in." As long as we took the 5 mile trail. Well. Fairy Falls is this 197 foot waterfall! But you know what? It was NOTHING (nothing) compared to IMPERIAL GEYSER!!!

Let it be known to all the world that Imperial Geyser is my brand new love in the park! So, from Fairy Falls, you cross the water and go a mere 0.7 miles further for this special treat (worth every step). First you come upon what I call "The Orange River." At that point you'll see Spray Geyser. Meh. Then you continue along the Orange River until you arrive at Imperial...and we had it ALL to ourselves!!! Words cannot describe...the photos are not just...the yellow bacterial mats alone...

I was thinking about including 8 more photos of Riverside Geyser, but you know what...they don't matter. It was a phenomenal day for me!

CL Day 21

Thursday 2 July 2015

Exercised at the Employee Rec Hall and then walked out at Mud Volcano. Went to work with K this afternoon and spent 5 hour there. Some desk time, some rove time...

CL Day 20

Wednesday 1 July 2015

Re-certified in First Aid and CPR! That feels better! I have been expired for 2 years now. I'm grateful the NPS paid for me to do that! :)

CL Day 19

Tuesday 30 June 2015

Went to work with K and we took some animal pelts down to Bridge Bay to do some interpretation. Then we inventoried every single stuffed bird in the museum at Fishing Bridge and got an education in the process...84 birds! Saw some idiots riding their bikes on the boardwalk at Mud Volcano. Also, we roved LeHardy Rapids and those Salmon Flies were yum-YUM for the Cutthroat!

CL Day 18

Monday 29 June 2015

Woke up feeling "off" so I did not hike Washburn. Rallied myself to do laundry. Volunteered this afternoon for 4 hours at the desk. We had Cream Cheese Chicken and potatoes for dinner.

Finally Made it to Thermopolis! And Legend Rock!

Saturday 27 June 2015

We put a few extra miles on that rental car by taking it for a spin to Thermopolis, Wyoming! Crossed that off my bucket list! ;)

The State Bath House is free with two pools--one indoor and one outdoor. The water was 104 degrees so a 20 minute soak is plenty. We then walked around the terraces there and crossed the Swinging Bridge. After lunch we headed out on some gravel roads somewhere to a petroglyph panel called Legend Rock. I LOVE all the fun we can have for "free!" The mister thinks up some interesting things for us to do and I'm happy to jump in the car and see what it's all about!
