George Washington Carver National Monument

Whilst in Missouri, we visited the boyhood home of George Washington Carver, the "Peanut Guy." He was so much more than the peanut guy. He was born into slavery and "Ku Klucked" as he said and orphaned and deprived. Yet out of all those obstacles, not only did he find "over 300 uses for peanuts" he was the first African American person to graduate from a white school (Iowa State). He is the first African American for whom the National Park Service made a monument. Take a moment to read a few of his quotes. This guy studied his guts out his entire life. He trumped everything. He never married. If you go, be sure to walk the trail. Be sure to watch the movie. Fell in love with everything there. Such a peaceful place.
