We drove south in the park to reach these ruins at Ashford Mill. The thing that struck me each time we stopped at a mine or whatnot was how motivated people were to get money. Obviously, this is difficult for me to grasp because, you know, I teach. But wow! People worked so hard in such harsh conditions to make a go of it. Some people made good money but others went home with empty pockets.
We had this spot to ourselves and there was a picnic table and a restroom. It was a great lunch location! We had the whole park to ourselves for a moment.
